The Challenge

What Needed Solving

Applicants for British citizenship must pass the Life in the UK Test, answering 24 questions with a 75% pass mark. Most existing practice apps demand an account, a network connection, and a subscription before a single question can be answered — a poor fit for candidates revising on commutes or with limited data. Many candidates are also non-native English speakers navigating an English-only interface while learning unfamiliar historical and constitutional material.

Our Solution

How We Solved It

We built a React Native app on Expo with no backend at all. Seventy-two tests — 40 full mock tests plus 32 chapter tests, 1,728 questions in total — are bundled as JSON at build time, so the app works entirely offline and collects no user data. The quiz engine handles both single-answer and multi-answer questions with inline explanations, and best scores persist locally on the device. Alongside the tests sit study notes, flashcards, a historical timeline, and a key-people reference. The interface is available in nine languages, with full question and answer translations in Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
